ST. LOUIS — On Friday morning, officers and a lady in the Downtown West sector of the city engaged in a firefight with their firearms.
At about 8:20 a.m. on Wednesday, officers with Homeland Security checked on a beige minivan parked near North 16th and Locust streets because they heard a woman inside the van say she was “going to shoot up” the nearby Social Security Administration building, according to a statement made by a St. Louis police lieutenant named John Green.
The aftermath of the shooting in downtown St. Louis
On the morning of Friday, January 13, 2023, across the street from the City Museum in downtown St. Louis, a shooting occurred, which resulted in damage to a vehicle, including smashed windows and bullet holes.
Green stated that the woman opened fire on officers as they sought to entice her out of the vehicle, prompting officers from the St. Louis Police Department to return fire. Nobody was injured.
According to Green, the woman is somewhere around 40 years old, she lives in the minivan, and she is known to the police because the car is frequently seen in the downtown area.
Around 9:30 in the morning, there were more than a dozen gunshots heard around the downtown area, and the woman’s minivan, which was covered in marker writing, was blocked off near the City Museum. On addition to the over 25 evidence markers that were strewn around the road, the car had a number of gunshot wounds in the side of it. The word “gun on board” was among the writing that was found on the van.
Just before bullets were fired, a witness named James Sherrell III caught video of law enforcement officers standing outside the van.

According to what he stated, security promptly shut the doors and informed the persons who were already inside of a potentially dangerous situation.
Sherrell explained her state of mind by saying, “A little red flag started flying in my head when I observed that they were locking the doors and everything.” “I’m still in shock.”
